Combichrist es una banda formada en 2003 por el noruego Andy LaPlegua (fundador de la banda Icon of Coil) como un proyecto aggrotech.

Algunos años después del nacimiento de la banda, LaPlegua cambió Noruega por Estados Unidos, donde se encuentra actualmente la base de Combichrist y de sus otros proyectos Scandy y Panzer AG. El primer material que LaPlegua escribió fueron unas pocas canciones que mezclaban powernoise y techno bajo el nombre Drive. El nombre de la banda fue cambiado luego a Combichrist antes de la salida del álbum debut, The Joy Of Gunz, que fue editado por el sello alemán Out of Line. El nombre Combichrist surge de un fanzine hardcore que LaPlegua hizo a finales de los '90, con el guitarrista de JR Ewing, Håkon Mella.

Nogle år efter fødslen af Banda, LaPlegua ændres af USA Norge, hvor han er på nuværende tidspunkt grundlag af Combichrist og deres andre projekter og Scandy Panzer AG. De første materialer, der blev LaPlegua skrev et par sange, der blandet techno og powernoise under navnet Drive. Bandet blev senere ændret til Combichrist, før debutalbummet, glæden ved Gunz, der blev udgivet af det tyske mærke ude af trit. Combichrist Navnet kommer fra en hardcore fanzine at LaPlegua foretaget i slutningen af 90'erne, med JR Ewing guitarist, Håkon Mella.
